Ethnic pint night and bottles
With Les and Barb out of town, we decided we should celebrate pint night somewhere they might not be too keen about. Since Steve had a jones for Indian food, we thought this was a great opportunity. Did not think that it would be as difficult as it was (for Steve and Jessi anyway, they were doing all the research while I was at work). It would seem that most Indian restaurants in Portland are...

TOAST! for breakfast
Last week Mandy had an unexpected day off and took Barb to Toast for breakfast. (You can check out the website for menus) Needless to say when the picture of the cute little sample scones came to my phone I was not happy. So I made her go again with me on Saturday. I am so happy I did!
Being that Portland is a breakfast town on weekends I was expecting a line when we got there at 8:30. What a...

Pint Night: Nobel Rot
For my birthday I wanted to go to Nobel Rot. We have heard so many good things about this place and have never had the opportunity to go. Since I had the birthday power I requested happy hour there.
We arrived at 4:45 and were the second group in the lobby. Once we got within 5 minutes of opening the lobby was packed. One group of people who came up completely ignored the fact that about 20 other...

Fondue It! food cart
While taking Barb’s car to get an oil change, Les noticed a slight change in the scenery on Woodstock Blvd. A new food cart in the Shell station parking lot! Since Woodstock doesn’t really have an area big enough for a pod of carts, any addition in the neighborhood is noteworthy. This one is a little blue one called “Fondue-it” and opened just this week. Portable dunkable cheese? I’m in! ...

Brewer’s dinner without coming home broke, bombed...
Ding dong! Goes the text message sound on my cellphone. It’s 11:30 on Monday and I’m at work. “Eastburn has a beer belly dinner tonight for $15. 3 beers and courses. Spots still left.” Jessi is truly a genius at finding amazing things on Twitter. Of course we’re going! There was a slight hesitation because the dinner was being held in the back patio, and it was 96 degrees outside, but how...

Nightlight: happy hour is yummy
Where is a good place to meet a friend you haven’t seen in a while? Jessi and I thought the Sapphire hotel would be an excellent choice but alas, they were closed for an employee camping trip. While this is a concept I should definitely mention to my boss, it left us with a bit of a quandary. We want some interesting cocktails without having to go downtown. Where to go in Southeast? Answer:...

Florence trip, finale! Surprise, there's more...
On our trip back from Florence we stopped at Heceta Head lighthouse and the Sea Lion Cave. Both were must see things on the Oregon coast. The Sea Lion Cave is a bit pricy ($12/adult) but it was pretty cool. The sea lions were not in said cave. They were hanging out on a rocky outcropping barking and generally having a good time. In the cave they have an interpretive center with info about the sea...

Florence, Oregon day 2: The Dunes!
After enjoying smores on the beach and a super filling dinner we still woke up hungry. Well most of us anyway. So we headed out to the Brown Hen for a monstrous breakfast. This place was recommended by the waiter at the Bridgewater. Worrying about lines was a bit silly since we were seated as soon as we got there. They serve the normal diner like fare all of which was tasty. Two meals were...

Florence, Oregon with a stop in Eugene!
This weekend begins our annual family trek to the Oregon Coast. In years past, we’ve all been flying out here from the opposite ends of the earth on vacation. Since we live here now, we decided we could spend the time in the car and go a little further away. Our destination this year: Florence, a medium sized town on the coast, situated between two lighthouses, near Sea Lion caves, and home...

Breakside Brewery, Saturday 7/31 continues...
What? You mean you guys did even MORE on Saturday? The pub crawl and the Trek in the Park weren’t enough for you people? Nope.
We were a little peckish after the performance so we headed to Breakside Brewery, a new place in the neighborhood made possible by the generous help of urban renewal money from the Portland Development Commission Steve actually found the...

Trek in the Park
It was brought to our attention, by Les, and NPR that a group—dare I say rag-tag—of theater folks were putting on a show in Woodlawn park. And it was a live interpretation of Star Trek! Knowing nothing else but this, Jessi and I made the “trek” (hehe, sorry, I really can’t resist a pun, good or otherwise) out to see it.
We seriously had no other information...

Yummers and Nummers I made by myself!
If you have been to PF Chang’s and ordered the lettuce wraps you know how yummy they are. I have seen some recipes claiming to be the official recipe but they are all time consuming and difficult. So I looked around the internets and found a (new to me) recipe share website. I found a lettuce wrap recipe that looked easy to make.
I only made two substitutions and followed the recipe...

Brewpublic Beer Crawl
I said we were laying low but then this came to our attention. How could we NOT go?? This particular crawl was in North Portland and included 4 establishments that you need to go to if you enjoy beer. Brewpublic sponsored this event and did a nice job getting everything to come together. Mandy and I biked instead of driving which was a fantastic idea. We got our exercise in while drinking tasty...
