4th Street Brewery Gresham Oregon
Hiking up the 1/4 mile trail on Larch Mountain to look at mountains worked up quite a hunger. We did get some really great pictures on Mt Hood and the surrounding area. The other mountains were hiding under blankets of clouds.
On the way back to PDX we stopped at 4th Street Brewery and restaurant in Gresham. Steve had been here before they moved. The new space is beautiful. They have a modern bar...

Breakfast of champions: Pine State Biscuits
Once again, we snuck out of the house before Steve woke up and got ourselves some breakfast. It should be noted that this is one of the rare times we actually got in trouble for letting him sleep.
The Oregonian has written about Pine State Biscuits numerous times in the last several months. It’s gotten to the point that the recommendations from the food section have been made into a...

North American Organic Brewfest 2010
Friday afternoon was spent hanging out with beer enthusiasts. Mandy and I volunteered to pour for the NAOBF. This is the third year I have done it which means I got to reuse my shirt! More tokens for me.
Each year I have done this there has been something different. The organizers seem to still be working out the kinks. This year all of the beer was in one large U-shaped tent. This allowed for...

Saturday of Debauchery, part deux
Well, it would seem that Jessi has covered a tasty little corner of our Saturday. But wait! There’s more!
As the DD on this particular escapade, I went easy on the beer at Apizza Scholls(one word for you: Pizzagasm. Had the leftovers today and swooned a little. Really is the best pizza I’ve ever had) which left me open for Sweets!
At this point I should point out that there was a...

NAOBF
Today we are volunteering at the North American Organic Brewers Festival at Overlook Park in Portland. I did this last year by myself and this year Mandy is joining me. The best part is you are compensated for your time with beer tickets. If you like beer stop by and drink up!
You can find the details here.

Out and About on Saturday, part 1
Saturday while Steve was still asleep, Mandy, Barb, and I went to see Toy Story 3. I’m not a movie reviewer but I will say I loved it. If you liked the other ones, go and see it. We also walked around the mall and scored Mandy a panda ring. He shows up later.
Since we were out we decided to check some items off our to do list. Namely getting Mandy to Apizza Scholls. Everyone else has...

Caldera public house
Once again it’s time to celebrate that weekly ritual: pint night. We decided to go with convenient, rather than unknown (not that we’d been there before, mind you).
We hit the Caldera Public House in Mt. Tabor, just cause it looked nice, and a co-worker of Les’s recommended it.
The building was once a pharmacy or druggist, whatever they would have called it in the 1900s. ...

Trivia night at Kay's
Every Tuesday night trivia is hosted by Kay’s bar in Westmoreland. Last Call Trivia has many sites for trivia all over Portland. You can find the schedule by clicking the link above. It just depends on what bar you like best and what night you can go.
So Steve and Jessi met some friends to play trivia. Our friends our quite the trivia junkies. They attend every Tuesday and actually won 2nd...

Dinner: An escapade of changing a recipe
So I found an interesting recipe on Food Network but it was really involved for an idea that could be pretty simple: Taco salad with a really great dressing. You can get to the recipe here.
I basically ignored the salad part of the recipe. Instead I just made a regular tossed salad with read leaf lettuce, red bell pepper, carrots, and onion. All of this was topped with black beans (drained and...

BBQ, berries, beer, and burns
The first annual Berries, brews and BBQs festival in French Prairie was calling our name. We jumped into the little car, after stuffing ourselves with Mancakes, and headed south.
The event was held at the French Prairie gardens, which even on most days will let you pick your own strawberries. They have amazing hanging baskets, and if we had stayed later, a competition for the best barbeque.
We...

Mancakes. Yes, that's right. Mancakes
Okay, so I shouldn’t have put that word in the plural. There is no WAY we could have eaten more than one. That’s right, we. As in Steve, Jessi and I went at this monster and there was still about half of it left.
We got up early enough to hit the Stepping Stone Cafe this morning. Evidently if you watch Food Network, you have seen this place on Man Vs. Food. Adam went here for...

Cheese and Wine: Apolloni Winery
Being on the Cheese Bar email list is a good thing. Mandy found out about the event on Sunday. So we stopped by for a wine tasting. The wines from Apolloni were great! I wasn’t sure what Mandy and I were expecting but I was pleasently surprised. The wines were all very lovely. We tasted a Pinot Gris, Rose of Pinot Noir, Pinot Noir and a dessert wine that was a Viongier. Each wine was also...

Pint Night: Saraveza
Friday night we went to Saraveza. This is the place that was recently written up in the NY Times as being a really great beer place. They have rotating taps of much variety along iwth a ton of bottled beers. The beer menu is arranged by your beer level, novice, intermediate, and devout. Each level becomes more involved in styles and length. The devout level was a full 8x11 sheet of paper. The...

Memorial Day weekend pt. 2: Sunday
So this was the view in the morning out the door of my Gi-freaking-normous tent. In my defense, this was a Christmas present for my husband and I almost 10 years ago. This was its first time out of the package. And I did offer to trade…
Jessi passed out pretty early Saturday night, so Steve and I sat next to the campfire and had “imagination” s’mores (to quote Ned...

Memorial Day Camping: Part 1 Saturday
Memorial Day weekend makes many people flee the city looking for that first taste of summer. So we jumped in the car and headed out with the throngs. Steve planned out our trip to Central Oregon. We headed out to just past Prineville, Oregon. But before we find our campground we must enjoy the sunshine! L. Billy Chinook here we come.
What does the L. stand for you ask? No it’s not Luke or...

Pint night in the clouds: City grill
Okay this would be the appropriate place to put a picture of the awesome margarita that Jessi had and the lovely sage infused martini I had. But it would seem that we deleted the pictures…
So imagine if you will, going to the 39th floor of Big Pink in downtown Portland. It’s 4:45 on a Friday. It’s raining, but hey, it’s Portland. We get off the elevator and are...
