Memorial Day Plans
The crew will be heading out to Central Oregon to camp this weekend. It’s Steve’s birthday weekend so he got to pick the activities. We will be camping and hiking near Redmond. Pictures will follow.  On the other coast, my brother is going to be spending his weekend in a Cube. Please vote for him. If he wins he gets to keep the Nissan Cube which he really needs. An ugly car is better...

Three words: Popcorn with bacon
Okay, so that’s not what tonight was about but seriously!  There was POPCORN.  with BACON.  Lets take a moment to absorb the gourmet awesomeness of this concept. What we were actually out and about for was the Radiant Summer Brew release from one of our favs, Ninkasi out of Eugene.  We’re actually contemplating a pilgrimage one weekend.  Notice how pretty that pint glass is. ...

Garlic Spears
So Last year I walked into New Seasons and wondered what the heck these things were in the veggie aisle. They are long skinny green stalks with a bulb at the top. After scanning the labels I found my answer. Garlic Spears.  Well I had no clue what to do with one so a year passed. Now that spring has tried to peek out its head these mysterious greens are back. Today I impulse bought some and...

Pint night on steroids: Pelican Brewer's dinner at...
Well, feeling a little redundant here since Jessi already posted photos, but gotta tell you about the Pelican Brewer’s dinner.  Haw-some! This is the first beer dinner advertised that fell into our price range.  At $40 a head, it wasn’t cheap, but much more reasonable than the $65-plus that most of them run.  Also, we’ve been to Pelican and we like their brews, and a meal...

This Weekend
Tonight we are attending the Pelican Brewer’s Dinner at Wildwood Cafe. This is our first brewers dinner because it was relatively affordable. I can’t wait. Yummy food and delicious beer paired together has to be good right? Look for our post this weekend or Monday. I’m sure it will be an interesting experience and therefore interesting reading! In the meantime… Vote for...

smalltimegenius asked: Hi guys!
My name is Angel, I just came across your blog, love it!

My girlfriend Lucy and I are relocating to the Portland area in the next few days, we had a chance to visit the city last week for 1 day (Jet Blue sale) and fell in love with it! My question to you is, in your opinion, where is the best place to live?

We are hoping to stay near PGE Park,
I...

Wine Country: Dundee
Sunshine, warm weather, visiting relatives, and wine. That makes for a great Saturday. Since Nana is in town the fam has been showing her all the finer points of Oregon. The Coast was toured. The Rose Test Garden will be seen today. The Columbia Gorge and Multnomah Falls were looked at. You know all the touristy yet still awesome things in Oregon. The jewels, if you will. The other thing that one...

Pint Night: HUB
Pint night was at Hopworks Urban Brewery on Friday. We all arrived at different times so there was confusion with beer orders and mine took FOREVER to arrive. That was quickly corrected once Dustin, our waiter, was alerted. The weather was perfect as long as one was sitting under an umbrella. The sun was pretty intense and our pasty NW skin isn’t used to it yet. Food arrived, food was...

Cheese Bar... need I say more?
What do you do on a Thursday evening when no one is really hungry for dinner but you need to eat something and you are very thirsty? You go to Cheese Bar that’s what. That’s exactly what we did yesterday afternoon. Beer + cheese + smoked meats= yumminess This adventure was everyone except Steve who had to practice for his awesome band. Mandy, Les, Barb, Nana and I all piled into...

Gilt club and Roseland Theater
Having missed the show that they did at the Roseland in October, I absolutely had to get tickets to see Mute Math at the Roseland Theater, even though they were in the middle of a three act bill. Due to work related drama, Steve, who originally was supposed to come, had to bail, so Jessi, who rarely goes out on school (or Lost) nights said, “what the hell” and came with me.  Before...

Stumptown Tart: Raspberry Release
This post is a few days late but other interesting things have happened in the meantime (winery tour, Apex pint night). BUt last Thursday we went to the Bridgeport Brewery in the Pearl to taste the just released Stumptown Tart.  Apparently there was a party but we just sat in the dining room and had the beer with our dinner/snack. This is the 3rd year for Stumptown tart. I really enjoyed last...

Wine, sun, food, fun!
This is how we began our tour. Not bad eh? Because Steve had to work on Saturday (horrible, right?) Mandy and I decided to tour some wineries we hadn’t been to yet. This meant driving all the way to Salem on pock marked roads- stupid studded tires. Mandy was navigating while I drove and we actually reached our destination using old fashioned maps. None of that fancy GPS for us.  Our...

Pint night: Apex and Los Gorditos
Once again it took forever for the week to end.  Am I a bad person for looking forward to pint night the other 4 days of the week?  The lovely folks at the Oregonian managed to anticipate where we were going (we so decided first!) and did a blurb in “The Beer Here” about Apex.  Don’t know if the crowd was related to that feature or not.  It really is an awesome place to hang...

Homemade Pop Tarts! YUMMY goodness.
I have been looking at the recommended items on Google reader and came across a recipe for homemade pop tarts. I love Pop Tarts but feel a bit guilty when I eat them. 400+ calories for 2 tarts plus all of the partially hydrogenated goodness you need for 2 lifetimes. While there are organic versions of the toaster pastry I thought this could be a good adventure in the kitchen.  The best part...

Portland Cheers to Belgian Beers! We do, too!
After spending what amounted to 48 hours in PA to be in a friend’s wedding I flew back home in time for the Belgian Beers festival. This may be my favorite beer-fest because of the experimentation that has to occur. The host brewery chooses a yeast strain that the participating breweries must use to be eligible for the people’s choice award. The winner of said award gets to host the...
