Overconsumption Saturday: Garden Brewfest & Eat...
How ambitious are we?  Two festivals in ONE DAY? You must think us MAD.  But given the choices, how could we pick just one?  Beer?  Food carts? Howz about BOTH. The Oregon Garden Brewfest was something of an excuse to see the gardens.  The fact that there would be 40 brewers there was merely coincidental.  I suppose without the beer as incentive we would have stayed home, as we drove through a...

Pint Night preview
Tonight we ride! Well, at least I will be biking to the Lucky Lab Brew Pub Hawthorne. We have been there before but I’m excited for it tonight. It is needed after this week. This Lucky Lab location features sandwiches and of course the pretty great beer they brew. THis location is housed in an old roofing and sheet metal warehouse. It is large and has a nice assortment of chairs and table...

Dalles Mountain Ranch and Maryhill, WA
ROAD TRIP! Sunday, Mandy drove Steve and I out to The Dalles and took a left to cross into Washington. We were completely prepared to spend the day in a state not quite as cool as OR. Bahn Mi sandwiches were packed away in the cooler along with wholesome drinks, such as root beer.  First stop: Dalles Mountain Ranch. This is an abandoned ranch in Washington that has been turned into a state...

Gilgamesh at East Burn
After tasting the Black Mamba beer at the Portland Spring Beer and Wine Festival we wanted some more. Thankfully we were able to head out to East Burn on Friday night for the Portland debut of Gilgamesh brews.  The taster tray had three beers: Black Mamba, Hopscotch, and an IPA. All three were very good beers. The Black Mamba is a non-hopped beer brewed with Earl Grey tea instead. It’s...

Ace of Spades release, Belmont station
Finally, a beer worthy to throw up your rock fist. The guys from Hopworks Urban Brewery were at Belmont station on Tuesday to celebrate the release of their new Imperial IPA named Ace of Spades, supposedly after their shared love of the band Motorhead. Jessi and I went there after dinner to meet the brewers and to try what is most likely one of our favorite types of beer, from one of our...

HUB Ace of Spades release at Belmont Station
Mandy and I went to Belmont Station again. I know! I know! We have been there before. But last night was a meet the brewer event and the release of Hopworks Urban Brewery’s Ace of Spades. So we went again. Living in Portland you tend to expect something unexpected where ever you go. That being said I still receive a surprise once in a while. That is exactly what happened last night. We...

Wooden Shoe tulip farm & St Josef's winery
Despite a raging sinus headache (bad enough that I thought it was a hangover from my last beer at The Hutch), Jessi, Barb and I headed to Canby to see some tulips and drink some wine.  This would be the second time I’ve hit the Canby area feeling less than optimum.  Suspect a Canby allergy might be the culprit… It was the 25th anniversary for the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm, so it was...

Spring Beer and Wine Festival
Almost every beer or wine event we’ve been to up until now has handed out these lovely colorful little coasters advertising the SPBWF at the Oregon Convention Center.  Well, hot diggity dog it finally got here! Having learned from previous mistakes, we managed to get 7 of us to the Convention center by 11:15am to get in line and take advantage of the FREE admission before 2pm.  As Steve...

Sushi!
We have family visiting this week and they wanted sushi. Well some of them. As with anything that has 10 people involved with varied opinions about food deciding what to eat for dinner is difficult. So we split up. Six of us went to Saburo’s in Westmoreland. The other 4 went to Oaks Bottom Public House (which is also delicious). Now because this place is hugely popular, one must get there...

Happy Hour at Pambiche
Pambiche Is a Cuban restaurant in a SUPER colorful building in NE Glisan and 28th. Steve decided that he had some time to kill before his meeting last night and invited Mandy and I out. They arrived during la hora del Amigo. I unfortunately did not make it until 6. Ah the price of making sure one’s looking balls are doing well. Steve and Mandy saved the day by ordering many dishes off the...
