Hawthorne Fish House
So I’ve been biking past the fish and chips place on Hawthorne for a couple of months now wondering “WTF?” I mean, it looks like your average London chip shop crossed with an Applebees or something. With a Green Bay Packers sticker in the window. But I like fish and chips. Okay, the fish more than the chips, but I like it. If I don’t feel like a burger, it’s my go-to meal when the menu...

Art & Beer
You gotta love Belmont Station. Even when they’re having awesome events or pouring fabulous brews, they have posters up helping you find MORE events with MORE fabulous brews. Case and point: When Les and I went to meet the Belgian Beer Ambassador (aka, the guy from Orval), I noticed a poster for an event with Coalition, Hopworks, and Rock Bottom taking place at the Portland Art Museum. What...

Coalition Brewery
During a day of foozing around PDX, we stopped in (finally) at Coalition Brewery on Ankeny at 27th. This has been on our list ever since they opened. It was the perfect day to stop in mid afternoon and get a bowl of soup and a tasting flight of beer.
The space is great! The garage door was open letting in the cool rainy air. The bar mascot, Satchel, was hanging at the bar with her human. A few...

The fact that they decided to hold a preview within walking distance of Steve and Jessi’s house on my birthday is proof that the universe is apologizing for making me...

Greek festival
Have you been to the Greek Festival at the Orthodox church on Glisan Street? As a girl frequently missing Greek food in the form of diner fare, this was spectacular. This event, which is held every fall has been getting bigger and bigger, and unlike most of the other festivals in town, they pay only passing attention to other elements of the culture and concentrate almost entirely on the...

Pint and burger night: Foster burger
So you know if a place has the word “burger” in the title that they have certain aspirations in this town. And no, Burger King doesn’t count. But seriously, it creates certain expectations of quality. Foster Burger in Southeast has been on our to do list for a while, after a recommendation from some of Steve’s coworkers. And since it is a mere 8 minute bike ride from our humble abode, it...
I hate the queue. It doesn’t work. EVER!!!!

Southern Oregon wineries
Steve managed to persuade Jessi and I from heading back early Sunday from Crater lake by mentioning the existence of some wineries in the area. Sadly, we were only able to hit 2 before they closed for the day, but they were nice places with some good wines on offering. Portland monthly had a really nice article on wine country weekends that mentioned Abacela which specializes in Spanish style...
